Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Wow Debbie, I can't believe he is that old already and so handsome. No doubt who his daddy is! Thanks Pink, Can you give the rest of those little buggers a cyber pep talk. Still no more pips. I can't expect much from this hatch. I couldn't stand to be left out on the New Years hatch, some are pullet eggs that were with in with 5 and 6 mo. old cockerels and some had been on the kitchen counter for days. Have 5 more that looked good at lockdown. waiting.........

I know! Seems like these chicks grew up right before my eyes! The two pullets are starting to look good too. Some copper coming in, albeit slowly. They are going to be a good size too, and they are very sweet girls. One will perch on my arm like a parrot!

Too bad I can't keep them still long enough for a pic.

I'm thinking long and hard about a serious nap until the phone rings about my new 'bator, then chickens, cause I always do chores in the afternoon, 'cept when they need water on frozen days like today. Brrr!

I tried feel good music yesterday for them and after about 2 hours I got a pip...I played Ray LaMontagne....maybe you should try some of your favorite music for them.

If sweet-talking to your eggs doesn't bring the desired results you might try something more agressive. Something that has worked for me in the past was to hollar "GET CRACKIN', LIP-SMACKIN"!!!!! Meaning that iffn' those eggs won't hatch, they might just be omelet makins!

It might be a slightly yellow leg/foot.....not exactly the same as the other marans but, it does have a really feathered foot which makes it a little hard to tell....
