And no worries...I'll trade ya that nice rooster for my next palomino paint! I'm teasing! My husband would be rolling his eyes right now since I have a super nice Western Pleasure APHA show mare sitting here waiting on me to quit hanging out with my chickens!

Geebs...love that babe!

Paul (GFF) still has them, but he is not breeding them right now or for a while, but he is filling orders that were made before his decision to not breed the Marans while he works on his other very new imported breeds. Don't know if he will offer them in the future or not.
Davis birds can be a little harder to find but there are several of us out there that have closed Davis flocks or can have closed Davis flocks if need be and of course I can't name everyone off the top of my head right now, it's too early for that.

Yes that was my understanding as well, from Jenny at Greenfire. Just curious, is Bev Davis herself still selling her Marans lines?

For those wondering, I have not been consuming ANY Ya Ya punch tonight!

You are too funny Lisa. My roo doesn't wear a tool belt but he is certainly a jack of all trades & does soooooo.. much for me. I & after 35 years it's probably too late anyway..........LOLwouldn't trade him for anything

Don't worry about it Denny...........I am an easy find & you are welcomed anytime. Maybe next time you are going to your brothers. Just give me a call. If you want to bring that hen I will put her in a pen with the roo you like. Your Dellies are doing well. I wish some others out there would point me to a good source of dark egg layers. My egg color isn't the greatest.

The only thing I can say that I know of for sure is that Bev is still breeding Marans. She is working on some of the more harder to come by Marans, but I can well imagine that she did not just up and get rid of all of her varieties of Marans, she loves them too much to do that. I know she wanted to focus more on the breeding, which she loves the most, rather than the selling of eggs and chicks, I cannot say if she is selling any.

Harris5 I have a 2yr old to start that I'm going to be showing (Impressive Art) maybe we can meet up at a show..Karen did you still want to go to the show in Stockton? I'm trying to see if I can get away I want to go.....That hen lays a nice dark reddish egg my favorite....Well I've got errands to run and mud to shovel gotta work off the holiday treats

You guys are a hoot! And several of you close to me too!
I'm in Clayton, near Walnut Creek and Concord (out on the back side of Mt Diablo)
I just bought some really dark eggs, so we shall see if those birds can lay dark for me! time will tell I guess!

did someone say they have welsummers?

I want to hatch a few more of those after this hatch... any spare eggs in CA?
my pair are on hiatus and I'd like better blood anyway...

I am excited to add this breed as my first own choice after my initial flock of random hens (which are awesome, too!). When can they be sexed? I will plan to keep posting here so that you all may tell me about the chicks! Wade Jeane (sp?) lines from SQ grandparents, here are the hatched eggs, with one cochin egg to compare. Color OK?
