Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

the average time to begin laying is 24 weeks in Marans (I've been told this by a few folks who've been breeding them for 10+ years). I never push mine...I feed chick feed until I see the first egg from that batch of juveniles, then I switch them over to layer feed. My line seems to typically start at 24-26 weeks (black copper). Wonder if wheaties, in general, take longer?

interesting,,, mine take forever , like ive said many times b4 , i have only owned chickens for the past 6 years and only been messing with wheaten marans davis/and presley lines for 2 years and a month ,,so what i discover or learn in my very small inviroment with wheaten is nothing to draw a conclusion on ,,,, lol but it is nice to read and learn from others on sites like this

Just got her yesterday and was excited to get a dark egg like the lady said i would, and im not 100% that she laid today because i have 5 eggs from 6 hens so far but there is another hen in the box that looks like she wants to lay an egg, so either im jumping the gun or my sexlinks lay darker eggs than she does
