Back to the blood spots. I don't use artificial lights. The problem is only in my marans, even though all variables are the same for my other breeds, so it has to be a genetic thing. I guess I should plan to use the marans eggs myself and only sell eggs from my BO's and BJG's.
I hatched 3 BCM's Dec. 1. It appears I have one roo and 2 pullets. The roo is definitely a cull, as I can see a spike growing off the side of his comb. I can't remember the word for it... sprue maybe?
It's too early to tell much about the hens, but they all have moderate feathering on their legs, and they all have a white feather or two in their wings. If I'm not happy with them as they get a little older, perhaps I will sell them as a trio. (I certainly won't advertise them as show quality, but simply as dark egg layers. I hatched them from my darkest eggs.)
