Mel-Glad the pictures came through. I like your "beefy" looking hens.

dldolan-so cute!

Back to the blood spots. I don't use artificial lights. The problem is only in my marans, even though all variables are the same for my other breeds, so it has to be a genetic thing. I guess I should plan to use the marans eggs myself and only sell eggs from my BO's and BJG's.

I hatched 3 BCM's Dec. 1. It appears I have one roo and 2 pullets. The roo is definitely a cull, as I can see a spike growing off the side of his comb. I can't remember the word for it... sprue maybe?

It's too early to tell much about the hens, but they all have moderate feathering on their legs, and they all have a white feather or two in their wings. If I'm not happy with them as they get a little older, perhaps I will sell them as a trio. (I certainly won't advertise them as show quality, but simply as dark egg layers. I hatched them from my darkest eggs.)

Edited for spelling... I guess I'm tired and it's 4:15a.m. here.

Tyme two hyt thhe hey.

I'm no pro either, but learning every day; and I will admit to being quite good at knowing a cockrel from a pullet.

Nice to meet you acechix

Between the two of us we should clean house at regoinal fairs!

When you are getting eggs we should talk swaps, and who else has nice birds. I go to Gilford NH regularly to visit my parents.
