I betcha the roos are just starting to crow - - - You do know they are suppose to get up first, not you?

Nope Lisa, can't say I have, but I have a hen that only lays an egg about 1 time every 3 weeks or so when she is in her laying prime, she will be 2.5 years old this spring. Don't know why I keep her either but I do.

No noise from the boys as of yet this morning but Bill is usually the first to start out the day, sometimes he starts up when I go outside around 245am to bring in more wood for the woodstove. He doesn't know how to tell time!

Who has broody hens???? Wow am I unpopular.... my hens hate me for stealing THEIR eggs!!!!

Geebs - - I was responding to your post about egg eating hens and my computer went psycho and NOW the post is gone

So, this hen is a little over a year old and I watch her carefully. I don't think she has EVER laid an egg. If she has it is like Pinks bird that lays once every 3 weeks.
So rare, So very rare that it doesn't count!

During the last 7 months, I have been at home full time - - so I get to checek the egg box every couple of hours. When I was collecting eggs for the first hatching - - - I was out there every 30 minutes. For a week, I went out there every 30 minutes so that I could mark who laid which eggs. That hen never laid. . .

Just STRANGE.

Pink. I can't sell this crazy girl - - - she doesn't lay eggs. I can not eat her because she can't do her womanly thing - - that just seems wrong! So, she is with me for life. If she was nasty / mean, I would eat her - - BUT she is very mellow. Here is something though - - The roo does not mate with her that much.

Do you think the roo can tell she isn't RIGHT

I still think she eats em.... Ask me about Annibelle the Cannibal... She was lightening quick.... Pick up your hen.... Is she fatter than the rest???? I mean lightnening quick...You pretty much have to catch it... I put her in a box with a sloped floor that the egg rolled away from her and out of reach... I could get her egg that way!!!! LOL... I would have NEVER had an egg from her otherwise... They eat them the second they are laid....gone in a blink.

Yep.......egg eaters are FAST FAST FAST!!!!!!!!! I had 2 girls that were egg eaters once and even if I was standing in the coop when someone laid and egg, I couldn't get it fast enough............gone.....poof.....right before my very eyes. I ate those girls.....fair was fair.

Is there a cure for egg eating? Other than eating the hens?

She is skinnier than the rest and never does the egg dance - - -

Very Rarely does she go in the nesting box. . . .

Why would she eat only her egg and not the rest ? ?
