I say all four are pullets, no one is screaming roo-ism out at me.

Oh, you just made me soooo happy!!

That is very nice egg color for splash birds. Do you mind sharing the lineage of the birds with us? Are they Splash or Splash Copper? Not all Marans pullets or hens are going to lay the same colored eggs as Lostsa and Poularde already suggested. Some pullets and hens lay a different egg everytime they lay and some are very consistant with their egg color, it's all the luck of the draw.

I was told Blue Splash, but have a email in to the gal who sold them to me. Here is the eBay link. She has great ratings from other buyers, and was kind enough to create a "buy it now" just for me for 6 eggs, though she sent 10! She gives a lot of information under this auction link, about breeding for dark colored eggs, mild mannered bird, etc.

The first thing we checked for and treated her for were mites, she is one of several birds we have with mites but not all at the same time-so she has been treated, that is what we wondered too...guess we'll see how things go as we come into spring-she is duel purpose

Debbi, 9 months seems to be when alot of mine like to molt. That and then around late Aug., Sept. Still check for mites, lice and how long it's been since she has been wormed.

Debbi, 9 months seems to be when alot of mine like to molt. That and then around late Aug., Sept. Still check for mites, lice and how long it's been since she has been wormed.

We treated her for mites and currently she seems to free of them, we haven't de wormed her-what would be a good on to use?

Really, no one posted in the last three hours ? ?

So, I have been working on my NEW runs today. We got one with 3 sides up. We dug the trench to bury fencing in.
Tomorrow - - we attach and bury the fencing. Also, we hang the wire on top of the run. Then, we are going to use a dog house as a temp chicken coop.

NEXT weekend - - - we will have to work on the New real coop. Then we will have 2 more coop / runs to do.

Here is hoping for the weather to hold out next weekend too . . .

. . . I have 20 chicks due to hatch next weekend!

So . . . How many smiley HATERS are there on this thread? ? ?

I get the ones at walmart because the ones at Dinsmore are huge shavings and kinda smelly lol. I usually put shavings down and then cover with paper towels for the first week or so after the chicks hatch. Then they start digging at the sides of the paper towels and 'discover' the shavings lol and I take away the paper towels then. By then, they know what thier food is anyways.
