You guys won't warm up for a Lonnnng time! We made it into the 50's today and expect 60's tomorrow. Long Johns and sweats and I was READY today.

Yes, we will have winter for awhile yet....my DH would love to have your weather here year round and he loves the snow!

We got our first black copper marans pullet today. She is sooo pretty and soo sweet and has already made 1 escape, though I have alert neighbors who helped me corner her and get her home (though she is pretty smart, hid in the rose bushes & I am thoroughly scraped up now... but she's safe and sound here at home where she belongs). She was hatched by a friend of mine in early October (thank you, gryeyes) and is 14 weeks old. I couldn't get a good picture of her today because of said escape (by the time we got everybody all settled in, it was too dark to get a good picture).

Her name is Henrietta. As soon as I get good light tomorrow, I'll post a picture of her. She has the most gorgeous copper hackle feathers!

ETA: She has feathered legs... that is American standard, yes?

They both have great bodies, nice & big, and came from dark eggs. I can't wait to see how their chicks turn out. This darn cold weather here in NY is driving me crazy!

Their bodies are great IMO, nice size! I love the bigger bodies birds, both the females and males, just something about seeing this them navigate those big ol' butts around so gracefully the way they do, just adds to the overall charm of the Marans.

Do you breed the Blue Coppers as well as the Blues?

. Is she still laying? If still laying, is she still in full production or has she slowed? Have you noticed her egg color lightening up at all or getting somewhat splotchier than normal? Has her comb lightened up or does it seem a little more pale than normal, or the skin on her face?
