I only have two hatches under my belt, but I think I have figured out how to hatch those really big eggs.

I am going to try something new - - - with the third hatching - - - and will then know if my theory tests true. . . .

I am participating in Feb egg swap and that is when I will do my third hatching . . . . .

Ok, here's another question pertaining to cockerels /roos only.

Does anyone notice that the lighter colored legs produce less shank feathering, or is it just in my limited flock? Pip has the lighter legs and sparse feathering, and one of the dark brothers (now gone) had lighter legs/sparse feathering. I must add that this last boy was colored very much the same as Pip as well and not over melanised. He also had white feathers among other faults, whereas Pip doesn't.

Hi Debbi, I have had several of the light leg BC and not a feather leg problem. This year I was going more for type than color so hatched several mostly Black female and several darker males now most of these have dark slate legs and orange-bay eyes, I only had a few mabe 5-6 with dark eyes. From the posts already my fowl must be mixed with something, maybe black giants or the like. The dark males I raised still had copper marks on breast. I have never had a female with a white feather or white undercolor in neck. I also never had a Wheaten chick hatch from my BC eggs. Don
