Don't hidden nests just getcha blood boillin"? It does mine! Last year I thought maybe a predator had helped themselves to one of my EE's, she was gone for weeks...........one nice hot summer day as I was doing chores down at the goatie pen, here she comes waddling out of the woods with 10 little chickies following her...........these are the kinds of hidden nests that get me going......did she ask if she could go on holiday and go have some babies? NoooooOOOOOOOO! Rascal.
My marans are picking up. They should be laying full force in a week or so. How are everyone's marans on brooding? My clean shank cuckoos will brood at the drop of a hat, but so much my feather shank. I think I have my first broody of the year.

Hi Gina!
Glad you girls are picking up in the laying dept. for ya, I wish a few of mine would do something. When I am lucky enough to have a Marans go broody...they do great. Only had one who started out very determined and lost interest in around 12 days to 2 weeks...I only gave her one egg to sit on because she was so wishy washy, good thing too. The other 2 that I have been lucky enough to experience broodiness with, did great and wonderful mothers.
I love Marans!
I'm wondering if it has to do with clean versus feather. Almost everyone of my clean shank will go broody, but normally only a couple of the feather shank ones will go broody.
Okay, this this is both awesome and "naughty" to post. . .
I have a few pips from my currently incubated eggs!!!!
But they're not purebred Marans.
Yes, I have some beautiful, very dark eggs here and they're not even holding purebred chicks inside. . . How sinful of me. They're not even Olive Eggers.
