Kelso! You named her Kelso!

I think it was the new environment... I did put her with one friend for a while so she wouldn't get picked on by the schoolyard bullies.

She hasn't molted yet... I took a pic of her yesterday...I need to find it.. my rooster left muddy footprints on her...LOL I should hatch an egg or two from her... He has too light of eyes as a young rooster so it may improve her offspring.. I can bring ya some to Canby if you are coming... Just for giggles. (it would be genetic soup).. maybe one of the local 4h kids would hatch em so you could watch...

Hi Everyone! I know most birds still aren't laying great yet, but I'm in the market for some Marans. . . will consider any variety. If you have any hatching eggs for sale or know anyone that does, please let me know. Looking for the best quality that I can find. Thank you!

Her sister Chloe hasn't molted yet either, but I suspect that she may do so soon as she hasn't laid an egg in several days. You should hatch an egg or two, but I can't take any more chicks.....I am expecting a load a chicks from Kathyinmo in February (more Delawares

). A 4-H'er would be great if you knew of any that wanted to take them, for sure it would be interesting to watch some babies from them grow up.

I might could do that!!! I was hoping you had access to a 4her that was close to you... I would gladly get some to a kid for hatch project....

.................NOt sure if this is the right place to ask this but she is a FBCM. I have one hen born in June that is a feather picker and eater. She has picked all the copper and most of the black feathers from the roo that is in with her and her 3 siblings. The roo is also a sibling. I have separated her in a dog crate. 2 questions: #1 will a separation stop this behavior? if so how long of a separation will it take? #2 Can she stay in the crate for and indefinate period? She can stand up but there isnt much room for her to move around.. I have no where else to put her right now with all the snow on the ground. ............
OK I have a third question also. If I put her in with my Buff Orps will she pick at them also? or is it possibly just a roo thing? PLEASE HELP! Thanks

have you tried upping the protien value... feather eating is a sign of nutritional deficiency...you could give some kitty food or some other extra protein source and see if that improves things.

Geebs, I did change their crumbles a couple weeks ago, but the protien is the same in both kinds. I now use Purina layena. Cat food will boost protien? I will try it. However its only this one hen and she was also picking the other hens. I'm thinking if I cant remedy this problem I will have to call her Dinner!

A quick question: Where can I find some decent or even good Birchen Marans? I have been doing some searching and am finding some listed, but the photos are showing only Birchen Roos, not seeing much in the way of hens. Does Bev D. sell any Birchens or is she still improving them? I have One Birchen hen and would love to expand to a small flock. Any ideas?
