I'm trying real hard to over-look that her beard is nearly as big as mine, tho...

Hey Kim, I would be happy with them. I assumed that a splash wouldn't lay eggs that dark, but what do I know. I have no splashes.........YET!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do!!! I do!!!! I have 2 of them!

Pretty eggs. They look like they have a little reddish tone to them too on my monitor. I like that! I only have one splash copper that is of laying age and its a male LOL! He looks like a long legged jackrabbit or roadrunner. Boy he's hard to catch too. He is gonna be huge when he gains some wieght and fills out. I have another splash that is a few days old. I'm hoping that one is a girl but its comb is kinda big so....

Here is a Marans (chicken) question...

Has anyone (other than me) fed their birds live fish? This morning mine stole a couple out of the hog trough and absolutely had a blast with them! By the time I had left the barn, said fish were pretty much devoured.

Thanks all! I do like her egg color....too bad she is half Blue Ameraucana.
For giggles here is one of her sisters eggs, Bill's big blue copper dtr that doesn't show any copper.
The Marans cross Ameraucana egg on the right and the pure Marans egg on the left.

Thanks to everyone for the info on lice/mites... BUGS! I think I'll go with the eprinex. We have some of that available. With the weather like it's been, and fighting dampness in the coop I'm reluctant to use anything liquid or wet.

I couldn't find any DE locally, other than one source that sold a small amount for an arm and a leg.

I placed an order for 50lbs and it should be here in a few days. I think I will put some in an old covered kitty litter pan so they can get in there and dust and roll and kick and shake and hopefully not throw it all out of the pan within a day. I suppose they will want to lay their eggs in there, too.

Math- I knew you could do it, but now you have done something I have never done... that is, build one in the living room!

Pink-Pretty eggs.

Mel-I guess that is one way to get their protien level up! I'd be willing to bet not too many people have fish sitting around in a tank that their chickens can get to.

I found a broken egg in the layer pen today. It was a RIR egg. Only half of the shell was there. I don't know if one of them deliberately broke it and ate or or if one of them stepped on it and broke it and then one of them ate it. I hope I don't have to start fighting egg eating hens. I may just have to build another nest box. This time, a roll out one!

Have a good Monday, everyone!
