Anyway.....yep they very well could be in molt or getting ready to start molt. I notice very ratty and tired looking feathering just before molt and then all of a sudden...feathers everywhere. I also have some 11 mos. olds right now that are getting ready to molt. O-Yay! More molters!

As for the frizzy hackles....I really don't know...this is where a photo will come in handy when you have the time.

The color in his chest that you say has lessened with age.....probably won't come back. He may end up with very faint markings of color or the black may eventually cover it all. Geebs posted a photo of her boy over on the BC thread that showed him as very red at a young age, then she posted a recent photo of him and he is black. I think she said he is 2 now and the chest just finished turning black.

Thanks, Pink. That is exactly what I was thinking. I was going to cull this boy because he had so much coppering in his chest, but I liked just about everything else about him. I was also hoping he would put a little more copper in the hens of his offspring. Glad I didn't cull him now... but these frizzy feathers! He didn't have that before so I'm not sure what is going on there unless it has something to do with a molt.

I may try to get pics later. I'm very slow at getting them loaded into my computer. Not sure why my 'puter is so slow about it.

Well I am in lockdown with the Splash eggies should have peeps by the end of the week

Pink yours go to the hatcher on Sunday night I can't believe it, so soon. I have been soooo busy at work its been nice not to hover over the bator for once.

I've contracted all my hatching out to Pinkchick for now...

But thanks for the luck, and Mountain Mel wishes the best of luck to all those other people out there who are hovering over their incubators....So THATS why the call it a Hovabator!
