I just unwrapped Wynette's eggs & I am sooooooooooooooo egg-cited. They are gorgeous & big too!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to set them.

Each came wrapped in it's own little bubble wrap bag & then big bubble wrap on all sides...PERFECT, every one!!!!!

I finally saw one of the baby key west chicks. It is so cute!! It was from the other broody. I ran into the house for the camera and when I came back the baby was back under the momma and she was giving me the evil eye. Both of thier chicks started hatching today!! I knew they had started sitting a few days apart but didn't think they would be hatching out on the same day. I heard a bunch of cheeping in there so there must be quite a few.
We put some tiny netting on the fence so they can't get through. I had some marans babies get through regular chicken wire when I made thier mom and them a brooder. The kw babies are a little smaller than the silkies I have hatched. I'm paranoid that something bad is gonna happen to them out there. I am glad thier momma is so protective. What is wierd is one of the other key west hens, that is not broody, was also acting like she was protecting the 2 nest boxes that had the chicks in them from me as well.

Arrrg!!! I just went out to lock up the girls in the mixed layer coop. For the second night in a row I found one of my hathery speckled sussex in a nestbox that we keep in the run. They have 4 boxes inside and 3 outside. Anyhow, she did not want me to pick her up and put her in the coop which I did anyways. She is normally very sweet but she growled at me and tried to bite when I picked her up. Hatchery sussex don't go broody do they??

OH geesh, everyone has broody hens in breeds that aren't supposed to be all that broody...and I'm dying for some broody hens

Well, I've got some Australorps, Orps and Sussex for dual purpose (meat basically) and we will see if any girls will be spared for the broody gig
