Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Candled the eggs, from Pink, this morning when putting them into lockdown. DH set up a 150 watt flood light with a custom built top for holding the eggs. We were able to see the clears- we ended up with 7 of them and 9 that went back into the bator- a couple of those were iffy but we'll see what happens. The egg from "Bill" looked the best as far as we could tell. Can't hold the egg on the candler to long as the candler gets pretty warm quickly!

This is the balance of the first hatch, total of 113 and did not expect this many since the cold weather was very bad. Oh, there are five more of the over size headed Wellies. Don

I'm a little excited I got to discusses my breeding pen/cages with my hubby last night after we put some roos in freezer heaven. He was very reseptive with the idea although he thinks we should build some small A frame tractors instead which is fine by me as long as he is on board and is listening ok with things. He is hard to read sometimes. This is really our first year really hatching and selling our ducklings and a few common breed chicks and of course eggs. But I think he sees how much we are enjoying it and he sees them hatching and leaving. So he is good with it.

He was kind of funny with the marans eggs that go on lock down on thursday. I had got a call from some one wanting all of them that I dont keep as long as they are feathered shanks. When I told him he said I thought you were keeping them . I laughed because there are 72 eggs

of those in the bator. I knew there was no way I was keeping all of them. He is wierd sometimes one minute he says no more next minute he says wait you cant sell any of them

Nice group of babies! How many eggs total did you set?

Hi, This first hatch I had 187 eggs and hatched 113. Better than I was looking for with the cold weather, and all the Marans out in the cold this winter. I have another hatch next weekend and one the week after. I try to set one incubator each week until I quit. Don

My blue copper marans has pecked its way into my heart, even more so than before. She's so sweet, and loves to snuggle up to me between my arm and torso.

She's about 7 weeks old.

Here she is snuggled up in my sweater. She was falling asleep.

Wow that's a good sized group- of course we're happy if we can get 12-18 eggs set and get 4-6 chicks out! Good luck with the rest of your hatches.

has anyone every purchased any marans eggs from some one on ebay with username wezzerrs. If you have can you tell me what you thought of there line. Im looking around at some auctions on here and there and just trying to do my homework there are several that look good buy there pictures and some are not even close to good. im being very picky before I order any eggs through mail order any more. Good job lady!! Wish they had spent more time with you and showed your Wheaten Marans and Buff Laced Brahmas! Guess you kept them out of the breeding stock? Gosh knows where their boots have been!
