Good morning all

Crazy goings ons here yesterday! Some whack job tried to get on the military post, and when refused, he drove through the barrier, and then lead police on a high speed chase, shooting his AK47 at them. He crashed his car by the University, and then broke in to a home and stole their car. Another chase, and they finally caught him about 15 miles north of me. They still don't know why he did it.

Then that night, the weather got frisky! High winds, tornado warnings, lots of lightning, hail, and big rains! At least the power didn't go out! Temps this morning are about 20* cooler, with highs in the 60s, 30* less than the last few days! See Mel, you're not alone! I actually welcome a break from the heat, and so will the chooks! I sure hope today isn't quite as exciting!

I am not one that like to critique others birds, but will say that I really like the copper colors coming in on them, nice tones.

I like the width of the first cockerels shoulders from the photo looking down on him and he looks to have nice width all the way back to his tail. We need nice wide birds in the breedings of Marans, Marans should be good sized stocky beefy birds and IMO this guy will be a nice specimen of that upon maturity. The first cockerel is my favorite and if I had to choose one to keep out of them it would be him.

For the second cockerel that seems to carry his tail to one side......I suspect wry tail and this is something that will pass on to the offspring if bred.

Hey, Pinkchick...did you happen to grab an extra bird last Sunday when you were here?

I thought I had 2 OE hens, but I look real hard yesterday and I only see 1 OE hen & 1 Splash hen....

Morning All!!!

Finally got a few of my veggie starts in the ground yesterday with our little tropical heatwave we had.

Went outside at 725AM yesterday morning to get something out of my truck....got side tracked by the freshly tilled dirt in the garden and I didn't come back into the house until sometime around 8PM.....long day but it was so worth it to be able to get some stuff done.

I have a couple of broody girls...one Black Copper and another Welsummer.....makes me crazy,

, short trip I know but still....broody's = no eggs. Egg color right now coming from the breeding pen is

I'm telling ya....down right AWFUL and quantity is less than desirable as well. Got 3 eggs yesterday.

I suspect that with most of the girls getting ready to turn a year old that they may be getting ready to molt pretty soon. Guess I should be happy with the 3 pathetic eggs I got yesterday....cuz before I know it, I'll be gettin nuttin'!

Of course they would slow waaaaaay down just as I only have 5 folks left on the waiting list for eggs.

Was suppose to be saving eggs for Ms. Debbi from the Splash boy and Splash girl but this entire week I have only received 7 eggs from 3 girls in that pen.

What gives?????

Debbi~ looks like we have to try again...it's not worth it to ship the whole 7 stinkin' eggs they gave me this week......keep your fingers crossed for a better week next week.

I'm hoping she "borrows" Madison if she needs him. It's too bad we don't have some kind of a Roo Swap thing around here where we could loan out our birds....
