We have ALL the major ones in north Florida....

1.) Rattle snake --- pygmy and regular
2.) Copperhead Snake
3.) Coral Snake
4.) Moccasin Snake

I have had the pleasure of seeing three of the four in last few years....

Here are two of the little marans babies I hatched out yesterday!

(The Blues Brothers, Jake & Elwood). 2 of my BCM hens are getting some real nice copper hackles...

all have well feathered legs and perfect toes. I have 1 Olive-Egger, 4 blue hens (including Bills' Girl, Dolly Parton), 1 Cuckoo Marans hen that lays MONSTER eggs, and 5 BCM hens.

Odd Marans hatching fact for you who are trying to solve the mystery of hatching Marans successfully:
Dry incubated over 50 eggs - mostly mixed laying breeds - in the past week, it was a crazy staggered hatch mess. I forgot to put two Marans pullet eggs into lockdown, and they hatched in the turner without a drop of water in the incubator. Of 30 eggs that went into lockdown, one of the only ones that "drowned" was the single Marans egg that was in the mix.

Very interesting! Are you going to test this with a larger number of eggs? I often wonder if the moisture created by several simultaneous eggs hatching is adequate, if not ideal, for a successful hatch. After all, it's not like a broody hen fills up her water resorvoirs before going into lockdown
