is it maybe weak and slides out of normal placement- can you tape the legs like for splay leg and see if that helps strenghen it up?

Thanks, will do when I move it in the brooder, pink vet wrap hobble is all ready. Just never seen one with a leg twisted up behind the rear so I am a little caught off guard.

How many of you use egg cartons for hatching in??? What's the word on them....do you like or dislike?

I have used them the last couple of hatches and I think I like them.

Poor Pink, I can relate to the "odd" colored mitt not working! We women are strange birds!

Sure enough, if you go buy a new pair, the missing one will show up.

DM ~ My girls are starting to pick up again too. I only had 3 layers last winter, but they layed all winter long, and pretty much on a daily basis. I think they like the cold much better...but maybe not quite as cold as last year!

has it tried to use it when it trys to move around, I know it takes our a bit to get everything working right once they get out of the egg! Have not personally seen that.

Barb ~ Sexing Silkies can be impossible until they start getting older. By the time mine were about 3 months, I could pretty much tell who was what. The girls will have a more rounded "poof" on their heads. Watch for longer stray feathers on the heads and tails of the cockerels. Of course, check the combs, roos' will be more noticeable. Cockerels will also have more hard feathers, or less silkie feathers in their tails too. Be careful with the Marans chick and the extra toes, that's the beginning of the bullying. I keep my Silkies seperate from the Marans from the start.
