I've got question about Maran eggs. I've got five Wheatan Maran hens. I bought them as pullets. I was also told they came from the same clutch. They did not all start laying at the same time. The eggs are various shades of brown ranging from tan to rich dark chocolate. Will they eventually all be be dark?

Oh no, I could only wish things went that smoothly! Had to purchase a memory card for it, my old one is evidently too small. Then went to use the CD for the software and manual, doesn't work?? Guess I'll have to hit the Fuji site today and ask them what's up, then sit back and wait for the memory card to arrive, probably on Saturday. No biggie, right now it is very cloudy and misting, and it is one MUCKY, SOUPY MESS out here! Once it's up and going, I'll get some pics of Olivia and Charlotte for ya, the ladies are looking good!!

Vicki, that's the little sweetie in the other pics, yes? I love her coloring! She looks very promising to me!!

Pip has become Mr. Feral Roo around here, refusing to go into the run. He has taken up residence on the front porch at night, standing guard like a gargoyle! Whoa be to anyone who may try to come to my front door at night, I can see him attacking in the dark, or at least doing his Velociraptor growl! That would scare the crap out of a would-be intruder!

Debbi~ Sounds like you got the same camera as me....the Fuji Finepix 18x zoom ...is that what you got?

It is pretty easy to navigate and was plug and play on my computer so I didn't have to load the CD.

Yes, Fujifilm S2950. I plugged it into my puter, and the puter recognized it, but no pics uploaded and there were 3 on there? I think the problem may just lie with the card I used, it is way too small for this camera! I ordered a 16GB card, Fuji said 1GB-32GB, so I settled for the half way mark. Looks like it should be a good camera once I get to know it better?

Welcome! It's hard to say if they will all be dark- even though they came from the same clutch-each hen will differ. How long have they been laying? I know that when they 1st start out it takes awhile for the paint booth to get up and running so to speak.

Hi ThaiChick! How long have they been laying? I would say that if they have been laying longer than a month then the color of the egg is what the color is going to be. Not all Marans hens lay the same color egg. Also, egg color will and can vary throughout the lay cycle.

and man o man he had quite the large comb didn't he? WOW and for such a youngster!

Thanks Pink, yes he comb was large, the other 4 boys don't have combs as big. Kind of at a loss as to what direction I want to head with this group. I have 4 boys and 2 girls and with hatching out the chicks the kid's will need for their 4-H projects space it at a premium. We have close to 60 chicks from 3 hatches now the oldest group from NYD(almost 8 weeks) to last week Feb 6th 2012. It's help that winter has been on the mild side as one of our work trailers has had to sit outside

. Even if I separated the pens in the outside coop to free up 1 run, it is still to cold to move any group out there as they have been inside where it is warm.

Have a wheaton marans hen will be 2 in july hatched from breeder in ohio this hen is amazing she has layed 5/6 eggs a week since she was 5 months old and they are 5 to 6 on the egg chart. What is the average for wheaton marans egg laying 

i get 3 or 4 every seven days and its 28 to 30 weks from hatching egg to to laying egg

like others just stated it it takes a while to get the paint booth working correctly. weslock usually takes about 2 months of the winter time from laying eggs and when I start back up again they're usually pretty dark but for the most part egg color levels off pretty quickly in my experience they don't get much darker after bout the fifth egg. but they do lighten. and houdy pink , hows that west coast swing gooing lol

people are tallin about wheaten more here than the wheaten thred lol. its so nice the regulars still hwre and helping people with there experance
