Quote: I mix small amounts of grit into the feed. I had read they can pig out on it when offered in a separate dish and get an impaction that way too.
Flat coke. thank you.
Quote: Not sure. They seem to throw up water/fluids sometimes. Anyone know?
About using flat coke to dissolve stuff... you can also go to most any pharmacy or drugstore and buy a small bottle of "Coke syrup" for a couple dollars, it is just the syrup used to make coca-cola. The coke syrup is good for people too, just pour some over crushed ice and take when you have an upset stomach or are nauseous. Works great!
I thought I would post a pic of my Marans roo. I have no idea what he is supposed to look like, exactly, but I love looking at him, with all the irridescence in his feathers, etc.
I took the pics from outside the pen because he would not stand still for camera when I went inside. And of course, the best pic I could get was him laying down, so can't show leg feathering.
I know the pics aren't great, and he is a little wet, as we had a reeally heavy storm shortly before I took the pics. Are they smart enough to go in the coop out of the rain??My silkie roo wasw soaked to the skin....goofy birds![]()
Also, what does 'mossy' mean with feathers? is that the irridescence? Mine has lots of that, and some purple and blue irridescence too, is that a good thing with Marans? Is this what a Black Coppper Marans is supposed to look like?

Quote: I did that with a pullet and killed her... I should have left her alone.... The food/stuff will get stuck and then they can't breath or they will inhale it and die.
I don't know.... I know it is all the acids in the Coke that dissolve stuff. Like the enamel on your teethCould you use the syrup from Soda Club, too? (In case this is not a common item, Soda Club machines carbonate water, and then you can add in various soda syrups.) I have their version of "Coke" here, which is not technically Coca-Cola... think that would work the same way?
