Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I just had to share - I brought home 6 wheaten/blue wheaten marans chicks straight from Cree Farms...I am super excited!

How did you get six? When I contacted them for Wheatens they replied with "Shipped chick orders are generally a 20 chick minimum (for warmth)."
Did you pick them up?

Nice chicks by the way! Looks like #2 on left is a male yes?

Yes I am assuming that one is a boy - there might be other boys, that was the only "dark" looking one, but I doubt all could be pullets so we'll see! I did want to get at least one boy, so I took him.
I actually got really lucky with these chicks - over the weekend, I found a person on Craigslist (who'd posted the ad a month ago), looking to split an order from Cree Farms due to the 20 chick minimum. I e-mailed her on Sunday, I think, and then she e-mailed Cree Farms to see about arranging the shipment...the chicks were shipped the next day and got here today! I had to drive about 2 hours but I am amazed that it worked out so well! She said she still has some chicks left to place if anyone is in NY.
Actually - here is the new ad if anyone is looking...

for pips....

Pips for everyone!

Great job on the chick, Martha!!

I'm going to Unadilla - he has cages, so that the buyers can get a good look at the birds, so should be a really nice sale!
Taking bunches of bantam cochins, some marans, and, possibly, some b/b/s wheaten americauna!!

Sale is on Sunday

Come and check them out before they're all gone!!
I'm home from school now!!

Katelyn: I've got my granson's visiting this weekend, but I did pass on the info about the auction on the PA thread to one of the guys from York, PA, he's looking for BCMs.

The cuckoo Marans chick is looking much smaller than the others. Maybe because it's a pullet? It is feathering out faster than the others. I can hope, right?

So can ya'll help me figure out how to link a post from another thread, please? I tried doing it yesterday but it froze my computer. I would like to try and reference the enamel white for Katelyn. Sorry, I know it is probably pretty basic but it's not the same as before the new site change over. Thanks in advance.

Wanted to touch on the hatching in egg cartons. I use the carton method and love it. Do want to warn of using the paper cartons...they will suck up the humidity and moisture in the 'bator and could possibly get soggy. I use the styrofoam cartons. They don't mess with the humidity and they can be easily washed.
