Martha - shame on your 4-H leader - you should file a grievance...
I can't imagine that someone couldn't swing by and pick your two up on the way to the fair with theirs - that's what we would do...
We take my stepdaughters, as well as 5 cousins' piggies, so, some years, that has been 3 trips at 4:30am...
If I was you, I'd do some calling around and see if anyone has room on their trailer - pigs, goats, lambs, whatever...
Our stock trailer has 2 stalls, so we can get at least two children's stock delivered at a time
Don't you have an auction?
If so, don't worry about the home trip - any pigs you win at auction (or your own) will be trailered to the butcher's at his cost and travel home to you in a box!
haha - that said, we have a couple from Ecuador who pick up their pigs in a suburban - the man lays the animal down in the back and the wife sits on it, to keep it restrained on the trip home.
They explained that they prefer to use every part of the animal, including the blood
, so take it live
I'm sure that's an exciting trip!!
The feed pans Debbi is talking about are what I use, too - but I wouldn't worry about ot now - it's only about 3 more weeks! haha
