That's kind of why I'm starting with the easy, obvious stuff, like color and profile. Those are fairly easy selections to make at this point.

I received some pretty Golden Cuckoo eggs today...along with some Salmon Favorelle(sp?) eggs today....this is them...what do you guys think? what are they on the egg color scale? i CANT wait for Golden babies! i just love how they look!

Hey guys, ever wonder what a turken marans cross looks like? I accidently hatched one today. I must have mixed one up with some Jersey black giant eggs I was hatching for a friend!

of course, it got the NN trait! Well, at least it will be easy to tell apart from the real marans! Oh well, maybe I can incorporate "her" (thinking positive here) into my barred bearded olive egger project somehow, make them barred, bearded, naked necked olive eggers!

all I would need to do is add maybe frizzle and a crest and I would have a bird that NO ONE else would ever have (or want!)

Patty, I would love it if you would start a thread for discussing the development of Olive Eggers. I have Marans, Orpingtons, EEs, and Ameraucanas, males and females of each, and would like to do the same. So far, I've hatched out a bunch of eggs from EE hens, covered by Marans and Orpington roos, but I have no idea what to expect as far as egg color.

I have one EE who already lays a gorgeous deep olive egg, but I have no idea which hen it is!

so..noone can me what they think of my marans eggs?

question/...will parents egg color determine a chicks egg color come laying time? this is a serious question....thanks

It's really hard to tell from pictures, but they seem a little light to me. Here are some of mine(cuckoo marans) The flash made them appear lighter. They are actually a shade darker in person.

It's time to play.......Sex That Chick!!

My clutch of Wheaten/Blue Wheaten chicks is about 12 days old now, and I'm busily trying to figure out who is what sex. My task is complicated by the fact that I don't know which are "regular" wheaten, which blue wheaten, and which may perhaps be splash wheaten.

I've taken a bunch of pics, which I hope y'all will help me with. There's four that I *think* I know the sexes of, and two that I can't decide.

See if you agree with my guesses, and let me know what you think about the unknowns!

Oh, and please forgive the poor quality of some of the pics. I can't find my nice new camera, so these were taken with my old camera.

Honestly, the eggs are really light, but beautiful none the less. Nice size, but they are not a four on the Marans scale, thus techically unless they're really washed out by the flash, they're not Marans colored eggs...but the beauty is that they can still hatch out Pure Golden Cuckoo Marans, and just need improvement in the egg color department. Right now alot of eggs are lighter color, during the colder days, difference in winter diets, etc...I would be proud of them...Golden Cuckoos do not lay the darkest eggs anyhow and are a work in progress, although I know some of them can lay a decently dark egg. I love the Golden Cuckoos too, and hope to have some also!

I posted the color scale in a little earlier post today, you can compare it yourself? And its actually the old one, the new one is alot darker....Tina
