Onthespot, please show us those first dark eggs. Are those the BCM? You all have some beautiful critters.

Two more hatched during the night and two of the remaining four have PIPs. Wait til I call Judy and tell her she's a chicken grandma.

I'll post pics once out of the incubator.

First eggs are so cool, especially if you know whose they are! (I have too many together to tell, and they have random nest buckets.....they are very secretive about it.)

Cant wait to see the fuzzy babies and first eggs!

I've read that the hens combs get redder before they start laying too?

What great pics everyone. I keep checking my boxes for eggs but no luck so far. They're only 19 weeks old so I'm not looking too hard. They are changing quickly though. Their combs are really getting bright red and much bigger. Does anyone know what the average age a marans hen starts to lay? I can't wait to see pics of everyone's eggs.

I formerly was adeledamate but because someone hacked into my email account and my Ebay account I had to change everything. Fortunately I caught it before any money was lost. It was an operation in Nigeria and I have no idea how they were able to get into my account and change all of my passwords. Anyway.....now I have to start all over with my posts and be a "new egg" again.

Hope ya get some of that mess cleared up I know it can be a very long and difficult mess. Have had people come into the Sheriff's Office where I work at and had their bank and cell phone accounts attached and if it's not $10,000. or more the FBI can't work it. So I hope you didn't get into that kind of a big mess.


I don't know what age they start laying either my Marans going on 5 weeks old so I guess we will find out in a few months.

I can't wait to see those nice dark chocolate colored eggs

Thanks Karan and Drom. Wow, Donna too? It's sad because I really enjoy shopping on Ebay. Especially for items for my classroom. I get great deals and of course that's how I found Donna and Marans. I also met Patty. I guess it's just being unlucky. I think I'll try to change my password every month and hope that helps. The Ebay people told me it happens very frequently.

Karan you have to teach me how to use the emoticons. I haven't been able to find them. Besides the regular ones. Some of them are so funny.

Ok funny story.
This evening I put my 3 1/2 week old BC chicks in the coop outside so I could clean their cage in the house. I was in the house and I heard them peeping really loudly. So I walked out and they were all up against the side of the coop looking out and peeping at me. So I went in the coop and sat down cross legged on the ground and they all ran over and jumped in my lap like they wanted to hide and then one by one they crawled up my shirt and burrowed there.

And these chicks are not little tiny fuzzy-butts anymore; they are a pretty good size now, so my shirt was totally stretched out-I looked like I was wearing a tire around my waist. And they were just under my shirt cooing.
Anyway-then I noticed that my neighbor's dog was in my yard. So I don't know if it was the dog that scared them. (?) It was either the dog or just that it was getting a little dark outside.
I don't know.

But I guess I am officially the mother bird now
