Thank you,
I went thur 7 roos to get him
He is the best i have had

trying to determine if after first molt,, if He might gain more copper in the saddle?

anyone?

Byrdj & kathyinmo
The only fault I see is lack of copper in his saddle, otherwise he's a very nice looking bird. He has a great tail set.

OK I'M THINKING UR SAYING THIS B-CUZ THERE NOT SHOW QUAILTY BIRDS RIGHT BUT AS FAR AS BACKYARD BREEDERS AND RAISERS FOR DARK BROWN EGGS OF MARANS THERE GOOD QUAILTY WITH A POOR COLORERING ........................RIGHT

. . . I'm going to sneak over to FL and snatch those, kay?

I have a question for you experience chick owners/previous owners: Have you ever come across Bev Davis chicks or any Marans chick with deformities or eye problems? I have a little 3 week old cockerel who seems to have some odd eye problem. Here's pics of the left eye and right eye - And, is this a deformity, an injury that happened to the eye a while ago, or an inflammation? OR is it just that this cockerel will grow up to have the typsy "saggy skinned" look around the face as some Marans roosters have? - Because both eyes seem to be a little off centered compared to the opening in the skin, as if they're slightly hidden beneath it, but one is far moreso than the other. The bottom photo is that eye. It is practically halfway hidden by skin.

Is this a problem I should cull out, will it get better and just grow up to a saggy faced Marans, or what?

Well, I don't know what color egg the roo came out of. If he came from a very dark egg I would certainly use him, as that is a big goal .... for the darkest egg you can get! I love the dark copper (no yellow or light orange), the good tail set, and appears to be good size. As far as backyard breeders, that can be anything you want.

ETA: Illia, No, I have not seen or heard of any eye problems like that.

I don't know what to tell you. This is my first round with marans and I do have one CM I hatched out that has an eye problem but I'm willing to bet it could happen with any breed. Mines eye problem is kinda different. It didn't develop in the right place... but she's perky, eats and drinks.

More pics of chicks that hatched yesterday, As I said before these came out of my french blue splash marans and black copper marans. It seems to be 4 colors of chicks, black, blue and blue splash and 2 chipmunk colored.

You can see all 4 color types I have from this breeding but I don't know where the chipmunk color came from. I still have eggs in bator but it is day 23 and am about to give up on them.
