Congrats littledel!!!!!! Nothing crazy about driving that far for your babies! I drove 248 miles exactly for my Welsummers, matter of fact I drove that several times before I actually purchased them. I had the rare opportunity to purchase these guys from an elderly gentleman that had been breeding them for many years, sadly he became ill, sold his all of his flocks (of which I purchased 3 of them) and had to sell his farm. I was very fortunate to spend time with him and glean what was in his head. He lived in the same town as my sister so when I visited her I would go visit him. After he sold his farm and moved into assisted living he passed just a few months later. I miss him my friend but am reminded of him when I look at my birds and recall fond memories of visits to his farm. In my opinion you are not crazy!

I only have a few (6) marans, but they are all very nice and not aggressive toward me or my family. Now, my BC roo is definitely the cock of the walk when it comes to my other chickens. He is the boss and makes sure the other poultry know it.

yeah, I am going to have to learn how to do pics. I have a nice camera for it, but just need to learn how to do this. I guess I am going to have to ask my teenager for help on this. uuuggggg.....

Barred Rocks I haven't ever had an aggressive marans.... I do have a roo that puffs himself up when he is protecting laying hen....He is just posturing and that is only during egg laying.... (I kinda like that in a roo) We have cats and dogs and hawks a plenty... He has never done anything to me and I have had him a long time....I have never had an aggressive one. I have the Wade Jean line. I have had the Davis and they were also very nice...

Good luck on the Camera thing... I still get help from my teen.

Barred Rocks~

Never had an aggressive Marans here! This is one of the reasons that I love this breed so much, but of course someone could get an aggressive bird no matter the breed. I also believe that alot of a birds personalities and temperments have do with human interaction as well.

None of my marans are aggressive. Once in a while a roo that is just nearing puberty will get a little snippy but I just hold him alot and pet him more often and they tame right down. That can happen with any breed though. They get along with the other chickens okay too. I have some younger blue and black coppers in with ameraucanas until they reach breeding age and they all get along okay.
