Solsken and Onthespot Thank You I will not give them any more tomato or apple scraps and see if it stops. I sure hope it's not the pox, I read the trouble you had Onthespot sounded trerrible. My birds are pretty active and Isee them taking short naps in the sun but not long ones. Egg production has slowed down but I figured it may just be the season.

My set ups are usually pretty secure and handle the wind and weather pretty well, but the past couple of days, the rain and wind here was so awful (80 - 90 mph) on Saturday that it blew over one of my covered kennel/coops and carried it over 15 feet across the yard! My Cuckoo Marans scattered everywhere! Everyone was fine, but we obviously have to anchor my pens a little better, so for now we are using a tractor to hold the the big one (10 x 12) and will be using t-posts and hose clamps to anchor the corners permanently.
The smallest kennel went over yesterday, it's empty during the day, they just like to roost in it at night....so when I got home last night the Mille Fleurs were asleep in a little dog house outside next to the coop, instead of the roost that was now hanging upside down? What a sight!
So its soggy and wet at our place, and we're just trying to keep the birds on the ground! Funny thing is, when I watch them on the cameras, in the rain, they all run around playing in it!! They dont care if they get wet! It's like a shower and a blow dry at the same time!

Take it easy!

Drom that cockerel is a beauty!

I too am dealing with muck and horses!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been begging my dh for months to muck their pen with the tractor, and he says yes, but never does it.

Thanks Jennifer! Actually that's one of my pullets. She probably looks like a young cockerel in the pic, but they are 4 months now and the cockerels really look like roosters.

My pullets have all finally developed some color on the hackles. I wasn't sure if they all would.
I saw your page. When will your BCs start laying?

Your farm looks gorgeous. I am always blown away by the farm properties back east with the traditional barns and farm houses.

Onthespot-I don't know if you are out there, but I put my birds on the Purina Start and Grow you were talking about. You know I swear they put on more weight and looked better in a week and a half. I like the idea of keeping it simple. I don't have to keep buying feed bins for every type of feed and pellets I have for the chickens and horses.

Well, I was supposed to be done hatching for the year, and then got a couple e-mails. My name came up on 2 waiting lists and of course I couldn't say no. They were for some Cratty feather legged cuckoos and some bc marans. The color of the cuckoos were ok(not from same person), but I wanted to post a pic of the bc. Not sure how true the pic will show but these are a nice dark russet. I got these from Richard (MaransGuy). Thanks Richard!

I have some beautiful chicks coming up from wade jeane lines and can't wait to see what egg color comes out. They came from a good breeder with very dark eggs.
