winters sure are hard here in the eastern most part of west virginia also .... we try to run some heat in the coldest nights but i think the roo suffers more in the day time in the winter cold rather than at night in the coop , they made it threw the worst winter in history , there combs are scared but healing ,i am happy to say

Hey that little blue Ameraucana female in the last pic with my Black copper guy, is one of your babies from eggs I bought from you.
Here is my favorite Blue Ameraucana Roo from that same batch of your eggs. He is a big ol sweetie that sticks to me like glue and tries to get in every pic.

Here are the side shots you requested and a few of the hens. I think that the green band has the darkest shanks...

Hens, all but two have a nice copper color in the hackle. The two with gold have ALOT of gold. They'll be used for our eatin' eggs. How do the others look?
(Excuse the Ameraucana girls...they are in there to attempt to make olive egg babies...and the black Ameraucana cock-he's moving to a new coop.

I love Mom and Chick pics, thats adorable!!

Pinkchick, he started showing just a bit of copper, but I found him a good home yesterday. Local gal here who homesteads; raises meat goats, Cornish x, egg layers, needed a roo for her free range hens. Had a RIR, but he was small and mean. So it turned out great. Im growing out 2 wheaten roos that Im hoping will pass muster for my girls.

Kathy,
We find our BCM and Blue's want to go sitting every chance they can get. Right now I have 2 BCM sitting and 1 Blue. A few of the other girls are now acting like they want to go sitting also.

Well I know my Blues come from broody blood then!

I was actually successful in breaking broody #4, and that was one of my Blue Splash Marans from your stock! I kicked her off the nest several times a day for 3 days, and that wasn't working. Then I just switched pens with her moving to another one. That ticked her off, but at least she quit sitting!

Well of my 4 BCM cockerels, one is turning positively UGLY. He's got what seems like waaaay too much copper on his breast. Thankfully none of the others are looking that way, so it looks like I'll have some options when the time comes. They ARE still young yet (close to 3 months) but I'm not holding out any special feelings for mr ugly.

HAHA just like there parents I guess. I usually will put them up in a pen off the ground for a day or two and that will break them. My splash hen doesn't care and just gets even more mad if I try to get her to stop sitting.
