Very fat little chickies...nice. How many generations has she bred??? do you know??? They rooster.. the main one in the pic has REALLY good color balance... Light shanks... super nice looking bird... He is young so I am assuming he still needs to "fill in on the corners".

Just asking because that is how they look to me in the photo. Marans should not have green/greenish feet, but it is very likely that it is just the photo that makes them appear this color.

i misread you. i am still reeling that this turn of events occurred, so i guess part of me is still hoping it isn't tooo good to be true. i mean me, with birds with a name...it's hard to believe.

she has only had them for one year, she said, so i am guessing the roos are one-1.5 years old at most as she said she got chicks originally. i am thinking she has only bred one generation. she called herself "new to this" breeding thing, and the oldest chicks were only a month or so old.

which roo looks good? sorry, there were a couple and i'm new to this.

thank you--i will definitely keep my eye on those feet!

The breeder told me this little guy was a marans but I can't for the life of me remember what kind and can't find a picture of one that looks like him. I'm also assuming he's a he just look at that comb! He's about 6 weeks old. What is he?

He is a blue or blue copper.....hard to say which unless you know for sure if his parents were copper or not.
He is cute! I love blues!!!!

Looks like a blue marans to me.. big eyed too!!! Maybe a Valentine line or Bev... Nice eye on him.

okay.... do you have the chicks or the adults or both.. I think both roosters look a little behind the vertical in the tail...... So hard to tell.. the one picture of the roo all by himself under the baby pix is NOT your best roo. Let's see some check pix... If you have the animals we need some different shots to look at... If you are talking about chickies... too soon to tell.

Hello! I'm jumping right in to ask an egg question!

I have 4 BCM hens. Every. single. one. of their eggs contain blood/meat spots, sometimes rather large spots.
They are good, consistent layers and I've never had an issue with any of them with soft shelled or "funny" eggs, aside from the blood spots. Does this have to do with their breed?
I have other laying hens (EE's, turkens, and sex links) and haven't had this problem with them. It's to the point to where I feed the marans eggs to the dogs because it's starting to wierd me out.
