Ok let me know if these pictures are better of Lucy
please excuse the compost pile
She normally holds her tail up but she was afraid my daughter was going to drop her. Her leg colors are a little lighter than skin color about the same color as she has on her beak. She does not have feathers on her toes or legs. Her comb leans over to one side a little I don't know if thats a bad thing or not, but she appears healthy to me.
Silver Birchen or Golden Salmon or Wheaton or Black copper.....and those colors are bred back in from time to time for egg color improvement too or at least the French Marans site had explanations for improvements...the problem with adding is the amount of culls for color only now if you had an egg flock and a show flock it wouldn't be bad....I've never seen any Golden Salmon Marans pictures on this board but I think Silver Birchens are beautiful
I'm weighing mine @ 6 months then a year I'm going for dual purpose so I want mine big and lots of eggs and...well I'll work on type and size first. I'm lucky I have some that seem big so I hope they mature to 8-9lbs.
Stormy it's hard to tell but she could be a mix if she lays a dark egg then it's more possible she's a Cuckoo. Marans have white skin and the shanks should be white too sometimes they have a gray wash over the white but that is a fault and lots of Cuckoos have clean legs the English bred for clean legs....I have hatched so many Black Copper Marans that are off type that if I hadn't seen the eggs they came from I would say they were mutts..If you really like her you can always be "enabled" to get some hatching eggs and raise some that you know are Cuckoos...
