Well, chickens that lay blue eggs have pea combs, so do any of your chickens have a pea comb?

Yes if the pullet on the left is what would be called a pea comb than I have 3. The other ones I had gotten that are gray legged have what are forming to look like heavier combs. Thanks I never knew that.

Hi Buddy,
Its Natalie from the other forum. Love those eggs, it makes me think evil thoughts though, coveting is a sin I know.

Seriously though, those are some good looking eggs.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope everyone is having a Good Thanksgiving.

Well I am very much wondering now just how much of a good deal I got from having the local feed store order my Cuckoo Marans? As here are this mornings eggs. I know these came from my pullets.

I am not unhappy about the fact of having green and blue eggs. But I certainly would Love to have some dark brown eggs from at least a couple of them. This spring I will be looking to get some eggs from someone here on this thread if possable. So I know I have some quaility Marans chickens. DH said he will get me a turner for the bator and expand the run for additional birds.

Also here is an update on Ms Cluck she stands on one leg and does move the right one some but as you can see from the photo the right leg crosses over in front of her left one so the healing process has lead to this.

I am afraid of what the others may do to her if they start to pick on her she will not be able to run away. So don't know if just putting her in the coop is safe? Anyone had to deal with this issue?

Well again I hope all having a good day with your family and friends.

ARE YA SMILING YET?

I would wait on putting Ms Cluck back with others until she was stronger. If she has a chance it looks like she might get a lot better with some time to build up her strength and to learn how to compensate. Are those eggs from a barred chicken? Do you have a pure ameraucana to cross them with? I'd like some of those eggs, would trade for CBM eggs, good ones. straight across in the spring.

Thanks I am going to wait for Ms Cluck to see if she will find a way to walk. If not well I guess I may have a house chicken

I would love to trade for some of your CBM eggs and I will check around and see if I can find a find a pure Ameruacana Roo to put in with 3 of these girls. I have got to get 3 of these pretender Marans cockrells rehomed 1st. IF ya like I'll add a double yolker duck egg too

Karen,

I have a Blue Andalusian Hen with one bad leg that is almost a year old. She was hatched with a crooked leg but has learned to get around by hopping on her good leg. Its sort of a mixed hop/fly combination. We tried putting her with other Andalusian hens, but they picked on her badly. We had her alone in her own run until we hatched some some Bantam games and put them in with her as chicks. They get along just fine, maybe because they look on her as their mother hen. The Bantams are full grown now and they live together with no problems. Might be worth a try for your hen when she gets strong enough to go outside.

Greg, Thanks for the info on how your hen dealt with her situation. My grandson Noah seems to think Ms Cluck should be able to sit and hatch eggs for us. Anyway we will do the best we can, I get her out everyday so she has room to more than she can in the carrier. Even our dogs have accepted her as being a house pet.
As pictured here on Noah's unmade bed. Rascal our 1 eyed Rat terrier with an attitude and Ms Cluck napping together today.

She does flap her wings when I hold her up away from me. So we are hopeing she gets to start moving around more. Thanks again

I finally got eggs from my two Cuckoo Marans Girls that are now about 44 Weeks Old!! They've never laid an egg yet, so I call them the Freeloader Gals Ive been being very, very patient with them. They come from Kelly Cratty and Iona McCormick lines, and the eggs are decently dark, too! I went out today to check for eggs, and instead of none/one, there were THREE! WHOO HOO! (One was from Old Reliable, my regular Cuckoo Marans hen) And dont you know, my camera is at the store being either repaired or replaced! Rats!

Tina great news, now those girls are earning their keep

I got 1 blue, 1 light brown and 1 white egg today. So I am getting a good diverisity of color. Sure would be nice to get a chocolate brown. Our pullets are 20 weeks so I guess that means that there still is a chance. I plan to call the gal that owns the Seed and Feed and let her know that the hatchery she has gotten these chicks from are selling mutt, or mixed chicks and not quite a pure strain.

Here is an update on Ms. Cluck she stood up on both legs today several times. But unfortunatly when she tried to move the right leg once again crossed in front of the left. so she is far from walking. But yet improving.

She is so adorable! I hope she can eventually gain full mobility! She has a good caretaker. Thank you for being so compassionate.

I have one that has to spend his whole day in a small cage (Sounds cruel - Hope I dont get in trouble for that!) He doesnt do well in a larger cage because he bumps into things too hard. He likes this one because it has a little cabin/house attached, he loves going in there to get away! He doesnt go outside except for supervised outings. He was stepped on by my Llama and the brain damage was permanent, he can only walk mostly sideways, sometimes forward, and his head bobs up and down. He has permanent palsey. He eats and drinks really messy! He's a white frizzle roo, and he's very sweet, but he'll never join the flock. They attack him when they see him.

Anyhow, I dont think the feedstores care about the quality of their stock, they're just in to sales for money...but you should still tell them how you feel! You were definitely mislead!

Besides, Your blue/Green egg laying/barred patterned birds is actually a very desireable trait! You may be a little disappointed in the lack of pretty brown, but you actually have somewhat of a "golden egg" in the "Barred Blue/Green Egg Layer" genetics!! Thats too cool! That's not something you see every day.....you will generate alot of interest in that, you just wait.
