Even in full dark, 3 hours after roosting-time, those birds gave us a heckuva chase! Hopefully, we'll be able to tame them a little now that they're contained. And at last, I finally know EXACTLY what the male/female count is! Seriously, they were that wild. I had a pretty good idea what I had, but they've been free-ranging since they were two weeks old, so I'd never been able to get them to hold still enough to get an accurate gender count.

Wow..well congrats. I wish I had a large place like that to free range them..but I LOVE my chicken tractor. Even in that little tractor, they still run to the other side when I go to the opposite!
Aren't they funny when the sun goes down? I swear, they just don't sleep/roost as hard as they did in the summer. Too short of days, I think

We caught and moved a bunch of Orpingtons at the same time, and the difference was ASTOUNDING.

None of the chickens really wanted to be caught, but the Orpingtons didn't act like we were out to bloodily murder them.

Hi guys, hope everyone is doing well!

Sounds like the round up was successful, NP! At least now it wont be so hard to get pics of them!

I was out in the pet area today, and it's sure not easy getting pics with the way they run around! I got several decent shots, here's one of my BC Cockeral, and one of the BC Pullets.

Sadly, not enough....just a shadow on the Roo...on front of the insides...and the hens are as clean legged as they come! This is my first BCM flock, I bought the eggs locally before I knew much about them...actually the person I bought them from has now gotten much more desireable lines herself, so I may be able to work with hers to improve these lines as well, or just give up on the BCM's and wait for my Bev Davis lines (any variety except BCM) and I'm thinking about trying to get better lines from other breeders. I want to be more selective this time - and I am willing to wait and chose what I want to pay for.

Marans are awesome!

A Ms Cluck update She is getting fairly good at getting around now, she pretty much has the house when she is out of the carrier. Any how Noah and I had supper and he went looking for the chicken as she had been sitting in the livingroom. I thought she was between the couch and my chair No Chicken.. Noah found her,,,,she had walked into my bedroom and got into one of the dog baskets the one in front of my open closet door (excuse the mess).. that basket is taller than her legs are, she did pretty well for a crossed legged chicken.

It's she sweet? She spends alot of time with us and if we leave the room for too long she will look for us.

Your cockerel looks like he is on a mission and doesn't have time for photo ops. My cockerels will stand still like statues for pictures,

but my pullets? Forget it. They zip around so fast every picture ends up in a blur.

That is a very pretty pullet! From what I hear, it's pretty easy to put feathers on them. Besides, the eggs are the thing..... speaking of which, my birds are 22 weeks and my pullets don't look or act like they are the least bit close to laying eggs-

Frogdogtimestwo and Karanleaf, those are lovely eggs!! I love seeing the eggs, I could look at them all day!!

My BCM girls have no interest or appearance in laying yet either...the rooster is putting on a nice show now....he and the Black Langshan are becoming quite manly, but they're nice and "gentlemanly" about it. My BC (Thats what I call the BCM roo) is smaller than the Black Langshan rooster, so I hope they can keep it civil til I have a breeder pen set up for the Marans!!

Here is a pic of the paint I got for my Dining Area walls! I got primer paint of a similar tint also, but this is the egg I decided on, and they computer matched it...so this is the can of paint....of course, I had to go with the "eggshell" finish! Cant paint the room just yet though, the Christmas tree is in the way!
