Marans Thread for Posting Pics of Your Eggs, Chicks and Chickens

Hope everyones New Year is going okay...it as been very quiet here? I thought I'd share a couple of things...I dont have any new pics though....

I am not the most graceful gal, and this took the cake:
I am saving Cuckoo Marans eggs to send to my most best Virtual Friend ever, and wouldnt you know, I dropped the box holding 12 eggs and broke 10 of the Cuckoo Marans eggs at one time! Thats a new record, even for me! Why??? But she's a sweetie and very nice about it, and I have a dozen more plus ready to go, so it's not so bad! But that was really awful!!

Now another things thats not so bad, I'm off on a drive tomorrow to go pick up some chickens I just bought, I'm so tickled! No Marans this time though. I am going to be getting my Blue Copper Marans Eggs from Will Morrow of Whitmore Farms in Mid-February though! I am all geared up for Spring! Winter needs to go away now!

Wow,
I was down at my brooder and was looking at my cuckoos and the rest of my brooders. Yes they are still in the house at 8 weeks, just too cold

. My araucana are 3 weeks older than the the cuckoo marans and so much smaller. One of the roos are almost twice as big as my smallest araucana. I just think the size difference is amazing

. Maybe they will lay sooner

I have BC Marans, Blue and Blue Wheatons in the incubator now. DTH Jan 26th. My first ones ever!!!

The flash makes them off colored. They are darker then this really.

I just started my first bator project with golden cuckoos and blue/blue wheaten ams! I posted earlier with the eggs are here just have to show them off thread --

Thanks so much!! Mine are from Cree farm here in Washington. I think they are Bev Davis lines.

I am waiting on eggs from Richard Revis also. I bought a dozen of them a while back but don't have them yet.
I can't wait to get those babies also!!!!

Actually, I think your BCM eggs in that batch are W. Jeane. I believe Cree Farm's B. Davis birds are another variety like Blue Copper, maybe.
Some of those eggs in your picture look like the W J eggs to me as well. They seem to have a real dark reddish color and the B. Davis eggs, the BCM eggs I have seen at least, seem to have more of a brownish tone. But, that is just from seeing people's pictures of course-

My birds are all together right now, and there are some new speckled dark eggs in the nest buckets out there now, about a 4+ on the Marans scale - so I am either:

1- REALLY DISAPPOINTED in my BC's

or
2- REALLY PLEASED with my Welsummers

So I am just going with being happy that the Welsummers have FINALLY started laying (they are several MONTHS older than the Black Coppers!)

I went yesterday and got birds from Eggchel down south - I have them in Quarantine in a kennel/pen, and it was the cutest thing - one of the Penedesencas laid an egg on top of a cage I left in the pen for them to sit on..a pretty, dark, speckeldy egg! Well worth the whole trip, just for that pretty egg, and it's big! I'm such a sucker for dark eggs, thats hows these Marans got their grip on me!! And it was nice to meet Eggchel and Teri as well.

I like your approach.

Hey- will you post some pictures of your Penedesencas and their eggs when you can? I am real curious about them. Aside from the annoyingly excessive number of syllables in their name, they seem like very cool birds. And so few people have them.
