Hi guys, I'm gonna ask for your opinions about something while I'm making my Spring living arrangments here at Tfpets Place!
You can laugh at me when I'm done, cause I suspect maybe I know the answer...but well, I just wanna get some advice??

First a little background. I have a Cuckoo Marans Pen with 5 Cuckoo Marans Hens and 1 Cuckoo Marans Rooster. Also in the pen is one small Self-Blue OEGB Rooster, Bleu, and a little mix banty hen.
Mr. Cuckoo, the Marans Rooster, and Bleu, have always been very compatable....Bleu is a fully mature rooster and crows his heart out, he does not get near the Marans hens, although he will cuddle on the roost with Mr. Cuckoo or the Silkie Mix hen. Bleu is handled alot and is like a parrot, I carry him around, so when I come in the pen, he has done the rooster dance for ME...but I have never seen him act like he would try to "do the dirty" with any of the Cuckoo Marans Hens.

My Questions are CAN Bleu mate with the Cuckoo Marans hens? They're pretty BIG and Mr. Cuckoo is also really BIG...He could kill Bleu in a second flat. Bleu chose to live in this pen when he was a chick, I just never took him out.

Is Mr. Cuckoo likely to let Bleu have his way with any of his ladies?? When other roosters get near the pen, Mr. Cuckoo gives them a warning. Is Bleu allowed to "share" for some reason or does he know not to cross THAT line??

My main question is probably my most stupid!
Can I put other OEGB females in the pen with Bleu and the Cuckoo Marans and have the two breeds stay "pure" or "separate" since their so different.

I would be afraid that bleu is sneeking up on them behind and that the Marans boy would try and mate the banty hens and hurt them. Its your choice though maybe incubate a few eggs and see what comes out some OEGB X Marans would be pretty cool

If I was looking to buy purebred eggs I wouldn't buy them from a pen that has two different breeds in it. Are you planning on selling eggs from them? Or only having them for yourself.

I'd also be afraid of the bigger roo hurting the littler hens.

i just noticed the tail in the picture and it is quite up there and i looked at clair and her tail is bent over alot but not to much and im almost 100 % positive she is a she lol

Welllll.....I plan to sell purebred bantam araucana eggs eventually, and I've got several different breeds in the pen. The essential components for me are that 1. there's only one breed of ROO in the pen; and 2. the araucanas are the only blue egg layers in that pen.

But I agree with you that I wouldn't trust eggs to be pure if there were two different breeds of ROO in the pen, even if one of them is a bantam. You just never know about those sneaky little guys!
