Wait until you get one that is so GINORMOUS and globular, you can't tell which end is down! I get 1 from their cousins about every other day!. It's so weird. I am partial to the freckles, and I have a bcm that lays a lighter (about a 6) w/ freckles one time, and the next, she lays a 6-7 I have a picture that I need to dig out to post of her 2 eggs laid back to back.
And my cuckoos laid nearly a 5 on the charts their first 2 weeks of laying, then they laid soft shelled for about 3 days, now their eggs are barely as dark as a brown egg from the store! Sometimes PINK!! It's a trip. But, at least I know what the egg looked like that they came from!

It's seems like forever to get an first egg. I'am pleased:love For some reason the pic looks lighter than the actual egg. Maybe the flash? Awh who cares? It's still a pretty egg!

That's great Chicken Little! Nice reddish brown - GREAT for your first egg. Congrats. You must be beside yourself...as the song goes, "The waiting is the hardest part".

oh---and just a tip: The best egg pics are taken outside or on a windowsill with NATURAL light...NO flash! Flash changes the color tone, too

Which would be..?

There isn't any way on earth I could spell that phonetically, but this link will allow you to hear it, if you hit the little sound icon. http://www.dictionarist.com/marans

My
husband speaks French, but with a British accent, if you can imagine that, so around here, it comes out sounding a bit softer than that.

This probaby isn't all that helpful, since no one that I know pronounces it this way- it's more like Muh-Rans' in the US.

I've taken French, so I knew this was the way to pronounce it, but you gotta admit, muh-ran is easier to say than saying mah-rone. Plus the majority of the US would know what you're talking about right off the bat. Much like D'Uccles. I know it's doo-cluh. But most people know them as doo-clay and dee-ucle, LOL.
I do try to say Maran though, instead of with the 's', unless I'm talking about more than one. Simply because in French, you don't pronounce the 's'

So most Americans are double wrong, haha.

These are a little darker than the first ones I posted but not as dark brown as I had hoped. They are from McMurray so, eh...I won't complain.

The photo was taken w/o a flash under "natural" florescent lights. What do you think the darkest two on the left would rate on a chart?

The dark egg at the bottom as light colored speckles which I thought were pretty, too.
