That is probably where it came from I had for got you said that they were running lose. I had 4 different batches of eggs and I one was already marked cukoo and other 3 were BC Marans.

I'm not sure how many hatched from the eggs I got from you I didn't mark them.

He does look a little like those cuckoos 4idZ posted. I've not seen any of my Marans mixes without feathered legs. In other words, even the "mutts" running around my farm, offspring from my non-breeder B C Marans (that live with the main flock of 200 birds) and anybody's guess as to "who's the daddy" still end up with feathered legs.

The breeder flock I sold the eggs from had only just begun being let out for a time each day and you got the first dozen eggs so it would be a really slim chance to get a mutt in there, but there was a chance - that's why I sold them for $10 a dozen. At that time, they were no where near the rest of the birds so maybe it is a Cuckoo after all. Time will tell.

I find I enjoy watching the "mutts" grow up much more than the purebreds. They are so fun to watch them grow and change and get their final adult colorings. I have some beautiful mixed breeds on my farm and if I knew how exactly I got them I'd breed them on purpose.

I think you're right. There is another chart that lists each egg and it states that the Marans start at 4 (the 1st on on second row).

I think you're right. There is another chart that lists each egg and it states that the Marans start at 4 (the 1st on on second row).

Yes--the white egg is #1, and on up from that 2, 3, +

I have a Golden Cuckoo question to ask.
I have a pair of pretty light GCM, they are from the same hatch, she has just started laying and he is breeding...LOL. If I would cross the GCM cockerel with my BCM pullets, would this produce a darker GCM? Would I be better off just replacing the light GCM pair and start from scratch? Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

lostsoul: what is your egg color looking like? If they are dark, is a darker bird worth sacrificing a dark egg?
