I think it is actually Davis and Prather line. I have tried looking on line and cant find a thing. It seems like the black marans are pretty rare. The only information that i can find on them says they are rare today, almost extinct. I just wish i could find out more about them.

There are not a lot of people breeding them in the US. I haven't heard heard of that line, but I am mainly familiar with Black Copper lines and breeders.
Definitely visit this link for the French translation of the variety description and the link to the French Standard for Black Marans:

I didnt know ninjapoodles lost her entire flock! I just offered her some of my eggs. The fertility is hit or miss since these are young pullets. I hope she gets some birds.... poor thing.

Ok if I lose my entire flock... would someone please send me eggs? I seriously doubt my hubby would be willing to clean up dead chickens and buy me eggs to incubate. lol

Does anyone have ninjas address? Maybe I could just send her some eggs since she hasnt even been on BYC for over a month.

I don't have her e-mail, but I think she has a web site and it is listed on her posts.

Thank You very much. I will also call the woman that i bought them from and see what other information she has on them. They are 20 weeks old so i guess i could get eggs anytime. They need to get settled in and comfortable first.

Does anyone else have the Black Marans? They look so similar to the Black Aussie. They are pretty girls. I will have to get their picture tomorrow.

I do. I have 2 hens. And I have a few that I just hatched out. I also have solid blue and blue birchen. Can you tell I strive for the rarer breeds!? I just hatched out my FIRST blue birchen marans from a #7 egg! Absolutely ADORABLE! My blacks are from Will Morrow line. Blue Birchens are from Jesus Llano line.

I had a black marans rooster, too, but lost him a few months back.

I am looking for a black marans rooster too. I had one and lost him in the first heat wave, shortly after I got him. I am BUMMED because I had a fantastic harem lined up for him!!! Anyone have a black marans roo they don't need? Feather legs optional. I have three feather legged hens black that lay a nice enough egg, just need that right roo... Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
