Rustywoman, if you go to this link which is the variety description for the Brown-Red at the MCF site and scroll down the page past the little pics of the chick and the egg to the section titled "Description of the Brown Red Cock" they provide some really great detail and information on ear tuffs, and shoulders and on a proper balance of color:

I don't know that much about it, so don't quote me, but I think there are a couple different recipes for golden cuckoos that involve crossing silver cuckoo x black-tailed buff or silver cuckoo x brown-red. That one looks to me like maybe she has some black tailed buff genes.

I should add, I don't know how many people actually work with black-tailed buffs, I think they are not very common here but I do see pictures posted occasionally of black-tailed buffs and there might be some people working on those crosses with them.

then I think I'll try putting them with the Golden Cuckoo rooster in the spring and see If I get some chicks that are the correct color. Thanks for your help.

Hi, I would like some input on my 4 BCM's. Please feel free to be honest and say good points, bad points and if they should all go or if some have potential. I have two that have alot of red on their chests, one that has no feathered legs, and 2 that have pinkish feathered legs. No combs are standard yet, and one is kind of skinny but still young and will hopefully fill out more.
I tried to group in sections of who is who. They get confusing when you don't have a full picture. Thank you for you input!

lightly feathered pink legs,

Didn't you say you were getting 8 and 9's on the color chart and you were going to post pics?

I think they look Beautiful.. Remember that a Marans egg can darken as it lays>>Mine started at a beautiful terracotta color. They lay 8/9's regularly so as pullets just laying the color is lovely..Hope you have fun enjoying all your beautiful colored eggs..

actually I noticed that as well and was wondering because mine lighten a they continue to lay, and I was also hoping to see eggs that were an 8 or 9 best I have seen is a few 6 and 7 but they were pics from shows and I got eggs from the owners of the birds. It was later in the year though and my actual eggs were lighter but not by too much. we will see with my next generation if that is true. But I digress I would love to see your eggs that are darker
