Well, the thing about John's chick is that it is not yellow. It doesn't look like a wheaten chick out of a wheaten hatch or a BCM hatch. It's white, just like berkeleysprings was saying.

Could it be Blue Wheaten or Splash Wheaten (if there is such a thing). With my Wheaten Ameraucana hatch,
I had white chicks and yellow chicks..I'm pretty sure the whites became wheaten and the yellows blue wheaten,
though. Wheaten Marans are normally yellow chicks?

Resolution, I didn't quite comprehend the last part of your question- I'd be curious to see what your laying flock looks like= moreover- how is their egg production/ food consumption, temperament etc.. What did you mean?

My Blue Copper has laid 12 eggs in 20 days. Unfortunately, she hasn't gotten quite the hang of laying in the nest box,
and keeps dropping them off the roost at night. I caught the roo in her pen showing her how to sit in the nest, and will
stand next to her when she's in there, leaning over her and talking to her the whole time. I guess he really wants to be
her baby daddy

I got a weird egg yesterday. There was a hen last year that laid an odd, mauve tinted egg that gradually got darker over the season. I sold a few to people but with disclosing the color of the off egg. Most people expressed interest that those eggs be included rather than excluded in their orders... I was thinking I should have hatched some to see if it carried over. This weird egg MUST be from her. It is almost ghostly chalky white with a pink cast, but that coating is slightly scraped off you can see a light tan, RIR colored base. This is the same thing that happened last year. I never did find out which hen it was. I think I will make an effor this year to find out who she is, in case I hatch a roo from her. I would breed her to a son to see if I could create a line of pink/lavender/mauve laying birds from it. Probably not, but I can hardly help myself from trying.

cpartist, those are gorgeous eggs. That is so cute about your blue copper roo helping out his lady lol. I never used to think of the roos as such gentlemen before I got into chickens.
I have a black marans roo that is 3 wks old and already very gentlemanly/roo-ish. He lets the other members of his little flock have treats first and makes sure they all get drinks first when the waterer is refilled etc. lol.
