I'm considering hatching some eggs from my girls that I have now, Orpingtons, Australorps and Delawares. The only roo that I have is a Cuckoo Marans. I'm moving to a new home in a couple of months and I'm going to have to find a new home for Frank. So I figured I could hatch a couple eggs from the girls hoping that at least 1 of them would be a pullet that I'd be able to keep in my flock. Essentially I can't keep Frank so I was going to try and keep one of his daughters.
I'm not too concerned about egg color, I know that's what Marans are prized for, for me it was more of a sentimental longing to keep some part of my first rooster. Ya know? Frank is hatchery stock Cuckoo so I don't know if he's carrying any award winning genotypes anyways. But he's a sweet guy that I'm going to be sad to let go, so I was hoping that I could keep some of his offspring as a condolence.
Thanks for those that have posted some response to my question.
Resolution, I didn't quite comprehend the last part of your question- I'd be curious to see what your laying flock looks like= moreover- how is their egg production/ food consumption, temperament etc.. What did you mean?
