So what do you guys think of Mcmurray's selling Marans chics? Do you think they will be close to the standard? I would rather buy the chics I think because my hatch rate is horrible with shipped eggs and there is NO ONE around Idaho that has these!

Funny thing about those chalky purplish looking eggs....I've found, once they are refridgerated they darken considerably.
Just for fun here are some photos taken outside with out a flash a few minutes ago with some of that same hens eggs from last week that have been in the fridge unwashed. They are the 4 eggs closest to you in this photo. The 3 eggs just above those are from the same gal with in the last few days and the very top egg of those 3 is from yesterday. The other two have been previously wiped off but not put in the fridge. They dried back to the same almost purplish chalky egg. They really do have a purplish look to them, the photos just don't show them as they truly are.
BCM eggs are at the very top of the photo.

Here are they are with a flash.

Here they are just after I washed off half of them, no flash.

I can't remember if this was with flash or with out flash but here is a BCM egg next to them for comparison.

Pinkchick you are cracking me up! I see that chalky stuff sometimes too... is it calcium? I had one the other day that looked like a rainbow on one end...

That is what Geebs was driving at by the Oyster shell question... Calcium deposits... Don't do anything else pinkchick... We love the egg show!! I turned my lights off to let my mine molt and rest before late spring...Then they can raise their babies... So I have no pretty eggs to look at except my BLRW's started laying... (not pretty eggs though)

I posted a few pictures of BCM eggs with odd coloration and I also had one that was almost white untill it was washed then it looked normal until it was dry again anyway here is a picture of one.

And here is a progressive darkening from my Wheaten hen after taking two months off. The smaller egg is from a BC Pullet.

Your biggest disappointment will probably be in the color, or lack thereof of the eggs they lay. I haven't seen the catalog but would bet that they are clean legged. (Not to French or proposed APA standard).

I just checked their catalog and I was correct. They are clean legged. Another clue that they aren't up to standard is they advertise them as Cuckoo Maran, not Marans. It's always Marans even if you are only referring to one bird. Personally, I would risk buying hatching eggs from a good private breeder than buying these if you truly want Marans. Plus, your not limited to just the Cuckoo variety.
