I checked so many times over night, seeing only new pips, then FINALLY this morning I woke up to a fourth chick - A black copper Marans. I'm expecting the rest of the new and old pips to hatch sometime midday or late night.

Personally, I'd go ahead and get the Ameraucanas out of there.

You might end up having to help the Marans hatch. Some people don't like to do that, but I am much too impatient myself.

That definitely depends on who you speak to.

I personally prefer the LOOK of a clean legged Marans. HOWEVER, the APA will only be accepting the feather legged version. Therefore, if you want your birds to meet the standard, you'll have to breed for feathered legs. Also, the breed was created in France -- so it seems reasonable to honor the standards of the country of origin as much as possible.

I am breeding for feathered legs, because I'm involved in the efforts to get the Marans recognized by the APA. But if you just want dark eggs, then you can get them from a clean legged bird just as easily as from a feather legged one.

hmmm, I'm losing so much of the resolution in my pics when upload them to the site. I'm gonna go take some more and re-post

I think it's time for a new camera. All my pics lately seem either over or under exposed and I can't seem to get it right. I may have changed some settings and didn't even realize it. I have this Fuji camera and it is easy to use, but not a very high end camera. But the pictures also lose their resolution when I upload them to this site for some reason. It might be file compression, don't know. But I have gotten nice stippled eggs lately and want to post pics of them but as soon as I upload the pics you can barely see the stippling. It just looks fuzzy

Ok, the color looks much more correct in this one and you can actually see the stippling on a couple of the eggies.
