Partridge looking feather pattern means they're mossy - Undesired physical trait but MAY mean a darker egg layer.

White tips on wings doesn't mean anything - Most Black Coppers have a decent amount of white and sometimes none at all. I have two BC's who have absolutely no white, from beak to toe.

Black Coppers are sexable, depending on lines, from 3-6 weeks based on size and color of comb.

Okay, here's some pics of the eggs, next to a 'normal' brown egg from one of our hens:

And day-old baby pics, they are 1-2 weeks old now (ignore the one with a lot of white, that's a cochin bantam

I know the chick pics aren't the greatest, I'll try to get better ones.

I just noticed in the pic that one of the babies doesn't have feathered legs? I'm pretty observant, huh?

I guess some do and some don't, I don't know what 'lines' bigredfeather has, but I know these eggs are the darkest marans eggs I've gotten from anyone. Most of the lighter ones didn't hatch, he sent 18.

Yes, I was very pleased with the hatch, I've heard so much about how hard marans are to hatch. They hatched on day 22, which of course had me stressing big time. I could see in some of them to see how big the air cell was, but that was all. I was really hoping that I would get a couple to hatch. They also didn't have far to come, from southern OH to southern KY, so not too bad. Now as long as they aren't all roos or all hens, I'll be okay
