Oh good .... we love pictures! No, there is no way to accurately sex them at hatch.

Black Coppers are sexable, depending on lines, from 3-6 weeks based on size and color of comb.

Okay, here's some pics of the eggs, next to a 'normal' brown egg from one of our hens:

And day-old baby pics, they are 1-2 weeks old now (ignore the one with a lot of white, that's a cochin bantam

I just noticed in the pic that one of the babies doesn't have feathered legs? I'm pretty observant, huh?

I guess some do and some don't, I don't know what 'lines' bigredfeather has, but I know these eggs are the darkest marans eggs I've gotten from anyone. Most of the lighter ones didn't hatch, he sent 18.

You hatched 10 out of 18 ... that is a good hatch, and those are nice eggs. I would be very happy with that!

Yes, I was very pleased with the hatch, I've heard so much about how hard marans are to hatch. They hatched on day 22, which of course had me stressing big time. I could see in some of them to see how big the air cell was, but that was all. I was really hoping that I would get a couple to hatch. They also didn't have far to come, from southern OH to southern KY, so not too bad. Now as long as they aren't all roos or all hens, I'll be okay

Oh yes ..... I know .... first worry about the incubation, then the hatch, then .... the sex of the hatch!
