I have learned (from amazondoc) that you do not want to breed the Copper line with the BBS line. Breed like to like. Such as Wheaten to Wheaten, Copper to Copper, BBS to BBS, etc.

interesting, what would happen if someone did this. I was kind of hoping for a featherlegged chick to come along and keep it to breed back, and maybe even mixing a copper in to get the feathered legs, but now I don't know what to do. All my marans except the splashes are just chicks, so I have a little time to try and get info to figure this out.

I see no one has answered you yet, so I will give you my opinion.

The pictures of the hens are too far away to be able to see anything, either way.

Your rooster has what is called "flame" hackles. They fade out to yellow at the ends. Hackles like that are a disqualification in a show.
Hackels should be all the same color, a deep copper without fading.

Other than that, its hard to tell from the pictures much of anything else.

It shouldn't be hard to find someone with an extra cuckoo roo or splash roo with feathered legs to sell to you. You really don't want to mix in another variety.

Thank you for your opinion I knew his hackles were wrong but he has a full brother with beautiful color but squirrel tail so I am trying with the light hackles to see if his babys are better

I was told by the breeder that I bought my bc from that if I ever found a yellow feather on one of my coppers to get rid of it and not to breed it. That the yellow in the feathers was a major bad thing.

How is the color of his chest? Does he have a black breast or does it have a lot of copper feathers?

As long as you are aware of what you are doing, then you know what to cull for with the offspring. If his brothers color is better, you might breed him to the hens as well, and then compare the results. I'm not sure which is harder to get rid of, but its worth a shot. You might get something you can work with from both and then blend them together in a future breeding.

Just need confirmation before I put this on CL . . . Blue Copper Marans Rooster right?

No, that is not a Marans for many reasons.

1. He has a beard & muffs, he is a cross with probably either an Ameraucana or Aracana
2. He has silvery hackles, which indicates there is Birchen in him somewhere

That little spot of copper color does not make him a copper blue. He would need solid copper hackles and copper feathers on the back. No silvery white feathers anywhere, and no beard or muffs.

If you bought him as a pure Marans, he is not. If you bred him, someone jumped the fence!

The other birds in the photo are not Marans either.
