wheaton to wheaton equals wheaton.... I believe this is how it works... What is the diff between true wheaton and wheaton... IDK... they breed true as far as I know.

I think he has two "lines" of BCMs. I hatched 4 from his Bev Devis line and two are large, one is just about their size and one is much smalle would try setting out more than one dish of feed just in case some of them are getting in there.

When one breed white birds he dos not want red spots on them.Same is with Wheatens. You do not want Mahogany or Black enhansors in your Wheaten birds.Wheaten sports from BCM will breed true but will cary many extra genes and need work to get rid of them

These are what I would expect to see in Wheaten Marans at this age. They will breed true.
David

Oh, this surprises me. I have always read that they would not breed true.

Is it typical for Wheaten cockerels to have any red markings on the upper/lower breast? Mine has that and I just assumed he was not quite right because he came from BCM stock.

Yes agreed, I suppose you're right, I'm just stating the obvious.

Actually, I'm pretty comfortable with the obvious-I don't usually wander out too far beyond it

cha-ching.... Drom... there you go.. A new line... You lucky ducky....

I have yet to throw a wheaton in my line... I have never used a straw hackled roo either so that must be the majic. I did get a wheaton from hatched eggs... anyone want it... I don't do wheaton.

Oh yes ok. Thank you Ve. Glad you mentioned this. That is what I have heard about the Wheatens from BCM stock.

Well, I don't know, mine doesn't look quite right, but I have zero experience with young wheatens so I don't know that much about how they develop.

Drom, Your Wheaten cockerel is still young and in his juvenile plumage. By the time he is 10-12 months old he will have a solid black breast and a more noticeable cinnamon wing triangle. Nothing wrong with them.

Ve, Wheatens bred as recessives from Black-Coppers may carry unwanted genes but this is often not the case. When they do the biggest problem is that they have dark/dusky/grey shanks.

Each bird should be judged on its merits, generalization are at best unwise.
David

Well, if that's the case, then they are not what I'm wanting.
Some of them have heads so read, they make me think of Gold Laced Cochin chicks.

Guess I'll be letting them go to someone else.
