Has anyone else noticed how soft Marans feathers are? My chicks are from Green Fire Farms and are 2 months old. Will they always be this soft? They are getting more attractive every day.

okay update: I have 1 that is starting to zip!!

The one that was dropped is still very much alive. I am keeping a close eye on her. I just pulled her out to re-wet the membrane and I can see some veins that are still full of blood. So she is not ready to come out yet. Thank God it is Friday cause I may be up late tonight with this one. I don't like helping but this one is in a position it shouldn't be in. I will help it but only if necessary. I'm worried it may not be able to turn itself to zip since a lot of the shell is cracked but the tough outer membrane is still intact except for where it pipped and a crack at the very bottom. This one may actually earn a name!!

Number three to pip has enlarged the pip a little! Not quite zipping yet though.

My Marans are very soft compared to my Easter Eggers!

Yup Yup! They are VERY soft, especially the Davis line, which is what you have, cfd!

Some Good News! My single copper blue hen is broody! She is sitting on 5 of her own eggs. I had about given up on her and left the eggs in her box hoping she would get a clue and she did.

I have 6 of her eggs in the bator alongside the eggs I bought from bargain.

gvntofly~ I am sending nothing but happy thoughts to that little chick and many more good hatching vibes to the rest of them. How's is your daughter feeling now....any better??? Poor thing....

Knight Hawk that is excellent news! I have found they make great mothers. Issy one of my 11 mos old BCM pullets has not gone broody yet, but for some reason is very receptive to chicks. She stole another hens 3 chicks......OMGosh it was hilarious to watch Issy and very sad for the other hen, but after the other hen had had enough of Issy and her persistant attitude, you wouldn't have known that she even cared at one time. She seemed happy to let Issy take care of them. Issy now takes all new younger chicks that have been introduced under her supervision, she even piles on top of them at night in the corner of the coop. Its crazy!
