do to all the enablers that hang out on the board being so helpful and all. I was only going to have 30 or so chickens well don't ask how many I have because I'm in denial and I know silkies and turkeys don't count either....The feed store loves me though them baby birds eat a lot. Now I'm thinking about showing again only me this time and not the kids they will think I've gone off the deep end

My husband is happy chickens are way cheaper than having 50 head of horses-I'm down to less than 20 and I didn't breed any mares. Better yet my incubators are empty for right now anyways

not phone pictures, lap top cam pictures....
And the color of her legs lol well I guess I need to look I never thought to look at her legs.
Her color of her feathers are dark and golden color but not black and white like i have been seeing.
Thats the part I am confused about.

I can sit and see who is laying what one day right now I only get 3 eggs a day.
1 blue, 1 light brown and 1 dark brown but no where near as dark as the hershy picture with egg lol that was very dark.

I believe I may have hatched out some cucku babies I was given a barn yard mix of eggs to let a hen sit on cause I dont have many chickens.

finding which of the 3 that are laying should be easy since I can say for sure the blue egg is the ee's and the light brown I think is my Buff orpingtons
the darker color maybe the CM ? that I will have to sit and see tomorrow.

Are all cuckoo marans black and white, or can they be black with golden markings. My cuckoo marans looks like that only the color isn't like that.

ok so i am getting 6 or so Black Copper Marans (wade jene(sp?) C1) and we have 2 or 3 broody brown sexlinks (isa-brows to be more specific) so i can ether incubate them in my 1588, or (and i would prefer this) let a hen hatch them out and raise them.

So for those that have let hens hatch/hatch out in the 'bator what are the hatch rates for incubator vs Broody hens

shh, my mom and dad don't know how much i am paying for the eggs lol, only getting 6 because they are 5.00 an egg. (so would like to hatch as many as possible out of those 6 eggs)

geebs - how's your girl this morning?

I'm sure you found some good info. on here - wish I'd have been online when it happened...something if they're trying to pass a shelless egg they act extremely ill until they lay it. It's the oddest thing, and I've had several hens in the past that I witnessed doing this. Every now & then, a softie is laid, but I think we typically don't see it because they break so easily, and, well...they get eaten.

BEST course of action is a warm bath for 10-15 mins. if they are truly eggbound, which is what it sounds like you did. It's never a good idea to go poking around the vent unless you see shell fragments or yolk coming out, though. HOPE she's doing better today!!
