I acquired a recent bunch of two week old Marans. The internet seems to indicate that I need people more skilled than me to tell me if they are boys or girls.

I have French Wheaten Marans and even though the wheatens are auto- sexed, I observed that even early on there was a size difference in the combs, the males being bigger and quite pink right from the get go. I'm not sure if its the same with cuckoo. Try the Marans thread, someone there might be able to help.

Lbrad, is that because the males are a little more upright, as a friend described it?

The tail feathers are a little different on some.

Thank you!

Most of the sexing at this point is by looking at the combs. I always have some for sure Roos, some very likely pullets, and a few gray area birds.
The iffy birds are usually determined in another week or two.
