Marans

I have two cuckoo marans......one started laying eggs at about 6 months old and the other didn't start until she was about 11 months old! Ethel, the gal who started 1st......she already went broody a few days ago. We did get her 'unbroody', but she hasn't restarted laying yet.....Beulah

Im still waiting... My 3 Marans are almost 25 weeks old. Combs are getting redder, ive seen them eat oyster shells and the Marans Roo is mating them. I cant wait to find my first Marans egg.

Hi all... I am reading this post and notice that many of you are concerned about hens being of age yet still not laying, we just ordered our hatching eggs here in france from a great marans breeder who stated that marans hens need to be rationed because if they eat to much they will only be making fat and will not lay eggs. I thought this might help all of you, though ours are far from laying at the moment! I'm no pro but thought this might help, so check out how much you are feeding your birds.

My Marans were average layers of beautiful eggs, but they loved the eggs as much as we did! They were the worst egg eaters of any chicken breed we have ever had, I used all my tricks to break the habit, but finally gave away my flock of 9 hens, I couldn't stop their egg eating, anyone else had this happen, or maybe my girls just taught each other to eat eggs.
