Here's Georgie the poult all fluffed up and on it's feet. It's got crooked toes but keeps getting the shoes off. I'm going to try vet wrap next. I got it to drink but it wasn't eating. I read one story about a lady tapping them on the head, then tapping the food. I tried that and Georgie started eating immediately. This was amazing for me cause I had tried all kinds of other tricks first with no success. My silkie's eggs haven't hatched yet. Today was supposed to be 21 days. We'll see if there's anything tomorrow. Georgie does not like being alone.

Oh my, what a sweetie!! I wonder if the head tapping thing is something their mothers do? Very cool that it worked! :thumbsup I like to use athletic tape and a little piece of cardstock for the bottom of the "shoes" but one time had to use duct tape because the chick kept pulling them off!

Today the first chick of 12 eggs hatched with a lot of support from his mom and was very happy to be held for the first time, can't wait for the others!!!

They started last night and as of now i have 10 araucanas and one jersey giant in the brooder. I'm super excited that one of my araucanas has ear tufts!!!!!
Only one BCM is externally pipped but I saw some blood dripping from the pip hole. Also pipped at the wrong end. I saw a little movement but I'm not holding out much hope for him.

None of the other BCMs are pipped.

I have had a few hatches so far in March success rate not as good as I'd hoped but the month isn't over yet. I have eggs due to hatch on Friday and my daughter is doing a 4H project with eggs due to hatch on Saturday. All of these are from our backyard flock.
