March 2017! Hatch with us!

Oh, that makes sense!

You could try giving the chicks to them, just be prepared for them to possibly be rejected, and even killed. From what I've read, I think the majority of hens will accept them. But there are always "those" hens that don't. So its really up to you and your girls. I tried it with chicks that I wasn't too worried about, and all went well. Good momma hens. But I also gave one to a hen that had only been broody for a few days, and I found it dead the next morning. I have a few chicks right now that I would love to turn over to one of the girls. I think timing is a big part of the success or failure.
Awesome. I think I'll give each hen a few chicks. We'll see how they do.

Ok, I just ran home at lunch to move the babies over to a brooder. I locked up my kitten, but my older cat was sound asleep. I moved out 17 babies, I left 2 wet babies in the bator.

While I was pulling out chicks 2 and 3 at a time, my stupid older cat grabbed an adorable little black and silver chick and took off. I chased her and she dropped it. There was no blood, no signs of any punctures, and the chick was ******. I dropped it in with the rest and got them settled in to their new first home.

Before I came back to work, I assisted a chick that had just started zipping when I opened the 'bator. It was very stuck!! I chipped away a little shell and ripped the membrane and that little chick pushed out the rest of the way. I dropped it back in and let it finish.

Total egg shells I pulled - 7 RIR, 5 SS, 2 SLW and 2 of my eggs. The RIR chicks are VERY red, and BIG. Mine are silkies, I guess the rest are the SLW and SS. There are still a few egg shells in the bator.

None of the Blue Wyandottes have hatched or pipped. I have 3 other eggs that were pipped. I hope I didn't shrink wrap them. I really hate opening up the bator while there are still viable eggs, but it was VERY crowded in there.

I took photos, but forgot my phone at home. So, I"ll post pictures later.
