March 2023 hatch-a-long

How do your pullet eggs develop?
I had some that worked out decent considering the situation. I set 7 eggs from a ~23 week old CCL pullet (3/7/22 hatch) late last August. My BCM from the same hatch date was a straight run chick and ended up being a roo and since I can't have one where I live I had to find a home for him. I put off re-homing him as long as I could and then since the CCL had just started laying I saved the eggs and hatched them. Only 3 developed but they did well and were the cutest, tiniest chicks! The eggs were on the line between Pee Wee and Small (at most 43g).
The one I still have laid her first egg today and it was 52g while her mom's from today was 54g. She was the smallest chick but is now almost the same size as mom, probably will mature to be a bit bigger and will hopefully lay large eggs.

This is good to hear. I have, I think, 6 pullet eggs develping. My girls are now 32.5 weeks old so they were around 31.5-32 weeks when I collected their eggs (one girl is 28.5 weeks). The eggs I set I am guessing are close to 1 3/4 oz to 2 oz, but a couple of girls had only been laying for a couple of weeks. so hopefully I will have the same results as you.

(and on a side note jealous about your CCL laying at 23 weeks since mine is now about 46weeks (hatched mid April 2022) and still hasn't laid!!!!!!!! Long story but she has had twice that I thought an egg was coming any second and no egg then all of that behavior stops...... Once was right when daylight was getting shorter so figured that was why and why she didn't start....... but then she did it a couple weeks ago and then stopped and now she barely checks out the nest boxes......... UGH!)

Fingers crossed that your eggs are fertile and do well!
I have some eggs I set on Monday but am not sure if the cockerel was mature enough when I had to get rid of him so we'll see. I've cracked a few that looked fertile but most didn't.

I hope your CCL starts laying soon! One of my Hedemora chickens from the March 7 2022 hatch didn't lay until mid October. She laid a few soft shelled eggs early September and so I thought she was going to start but just needed more calcium but nope. I gave up watching/counting and then she finally started. One day soon you will get a happy surprise egg from that CCL!

I normally don't count but figured it out to post... But I do know she is almost a year. Lol. I swear she is just a dud and I will never get eggs from her. Lol

First time hatcher! I have 5 silkie eggs that should be making their debut on March 4th. Usually I just get chicks to add to my flock but decided to try incubating eggs this time. I find myself staring into the incubator multiple times a day. Can't wait to see a pip!
warning.......... It gets even worse once you hear peeping in there ...... then again once you see a pip!!!! LOL It is so exciting though!!!!!!
